Drug Addiction is a disease that affects a person’s brain and behavior. Substances such as alcohol, marijuana and nicotine are considered drugs. When a person gets addicted, he may continue using drugs despite of their harm. There is no specific causes of drug addiction, but genetics, psychological and environmental factors are considered to play a significant role. There can also be multiple factors present leading to drug addiction.
The psychological causes of drug addiction include a mental illness such as depression, inability to connect with others, lack of friends or social life, poor performance at work or school, and stress. The environmental factors that can be causes of drug abuse include a poor group that use or promote drugs, gender and ethnicity contribute to addiction, lower socioeconomic status, participation in a sport where performance-enhancing drugs are used, and a family member in a home taking drugs already. Genetics causes of drug addiction appear to involve multiple gene sequences.
Whatever causes drug addiction, it is harmful as it not only effects physically but also harm the mental capability of an addict. The addicts lose control on herself and/or on his life and they need extra care and attention. Nowadays there are many drug rehab centers available that help addict to fight against addiction and present customized solutions for them. Thus it is highly recommended to have the recoveries if you or some of your loved ones is effected by drugs.
